Events | Headline and Cultural Forums

August 2 is the day the Treasury Department is scheduled to run out of borrowing authority unless Congress raises the federal debt ceiling.  Right now Republicans and Democrats are far from reaching agreement on a deficit reduction plan, which has become key to securing Congressional action on the debt ceiling.  How should we judge the various proposals offered by the leading players--what would a good agreement look like?  Is our national debt really out of control?  If we get an agreement, is it the right one?  If no agreement is reached do we really face economic collapse as some experts predict?  Join Lewis & Clark College economist Martin Hart-Landsberg for a lively look at the nuts and bolts of the debt-ceiling debate and critical evaluation of what lies ahead for our economy.
