Grant T. Harris | Why Africa Matters to U.S. National Security

Events | Headline and Cultural Forums

A diverse and dynamic region, sub-Saharan Africa is home to both vexing transnational challenges and exciting economic growth.  On the one hand, instability in some African countries breeds terrorism and illicit trafficking that directly affects the safety of Americans.  At the same time, Africa is home to some of the fastest growing economies in the world and will be increasingly important to U.S. economic competitiveness and jobs.  Join us for a discussion of the challenges and opportunities found across this diverse and dynamic continent of increasing political and economic power, and specifically how the region factors into U.S. global leadership, competition with China, and U.S. political, economic, and security interests.

Grant T. Harris is former Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs at the White House (2011-2015) and CEO of Harris Africa Partners LLC.
