Report from Cape Town- An evening of dinner, drinks & discussion on sustainability in South Africa

Events | Young Professionals

Join the World Affairs Council of Oregon's Young Professionals for an evening of food and drinks and an inside, on-the-ground look at the environmental, historical, and economic factors that make air pollution such an intractable problem in South Africa. Jeff Renfro, recently returned from working there as a visiting researcher with the Cape Town chapter of Environment for Development (a network of environmental economics institutes in the developing world) where he worked with researchers to test a method for measuring the sources and concentrations of indoor air pollutants in Khayelitsha, a large township outside of Cape Town.

For this informal, intimate evening at the Horn of Africa restaurant, Renfro will use the issue of sustainability in the townships to springboard to larger discussion on the environmental issues that those living in poverty in developing countries across the globe face - and how expanded research, broader global understanding might inspire sustainable solutions.
