Music and Movie Under the Stars!

Presented by WAC Volunteers

The Volunteer Events Committee is a newly formed group of WAC members who plan occasional cultural and social events for World Affairs Council members and friends. The event this summer will be an international film in Washington Park. Please mark your calendars for Friday, August 21 and bring a picnic dinner and a friend to meet and mingle with your fellow members of the World Affairs Council of Oregon. We will be showing Vicky Cristina Barcelona, directed by Woody Allen with Rebecca Hall, Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz.

As you wait for night to fall, you can put on your dancing shoes for La Guardia Civil, the Al-Andalus danceable, party ensemble. Flamenco guitars celebrated in Spain are combined with award winning oud, trumpet, drums, percussion and song for a sound that fuses popular Spanish, North African and Latino music into a moving tapestry of cultures and rhythms. Flamenco, Arabic, Moroccan, Latin and Jazz gel to form a moving tapestry of cultures and rhythms where Corrida de Toros (Bullfight songs) PasoDobles, Cha Cha Cha's, Argentinian Tangos & Rumba's, all performed with a freshness and originality legendary of the Al-Andalus Ensemble.

In the film “two girlfriends on a summer holiday in Spain become enamored with the same painter, unaware that his ex-wife, with whom he has a tempestuous relationship, is about to re-enter the picture...The mysteries of the heart. Two children of privilege, friends alike except in how they see love, summer in Barcelona…Life is the ultimate work of art.” www.imdb.com (Vicky Cristina Barcelona is rated PG-13—mild violence, discreet sex.)
