WorldQuest Global Knowledge
Competition for High Schools

What?

The WorldQuest Global Knowledge Competition is a team program presented by the World Affairs Council of Oregon’s K-12 Education Program, and was launched in 2003. WorldQuest programs are hosted by many other World Affairs Councils throughout the country, culminating with the National WorldQuest Competition in Washington D.C.



Who?

45 teams from schools in Oregon and SW Washington. Each team is comprised of up to four students, grades 9 through 12, and may be coached by a teacher, youth leader or parent from your school.

Each participating school is invited to send one or two teams to show off their knowledge in areas such as culture, religion, language, landmarks, current events, history, geography, flags, and people in the news.



Where & When?

Feb. 23, 2008, 2-8 p.m.

Lewis & Clark College, Pamplin Gym

Program includes breaks for an ethnic meal together, a variety of cultural experiences and a chance to meet with International students.

Each team receives WorldQuest t-shirts.

1st place: The winning team will receive a trip to a foreign country (TBA) in the summer of 2008,  a generous gift from Education, Travel & Culture.

2nd place: Second-prize winners will have a chance to compete in the 6th annual National WorldQuest Competition in Washington, D.C. on April 5, 2008.

The top three teams will receive an International Trophy to display in their school.



Why?

This exciting and fun new program is sure to add energy to the classroom, while helping to meet state standards and advance critical learning in the areas of history, culture, international affairs, current events. and more. In addition to meeting other students from around the state with similar interests, participants will discover the “world in their backyard” at Lewis & Clark College.

2007 WorldQuest Winners

WorldQuest 2007 took place on February 17, 2007 at Lewis & Clark College. The program included breaks for an ethnic meal together, a variety of cultural experiences and a chance to mingle with and ask questions of the International Visitors Leadership Program participants. The winners were:

  • Third Place: Beaverton High School
  • Second Place: Columbia River High School
  • First Place: Southridge High School

    The winning teams each received an International Trophy to display in their school. Southridge won a trip to China this summer compliments of Education Travel and Culture and NorthWest Airlines. Columbia River High School traveled to Washington D.C. to compete in the national competition on March 24, 2007. Congratulations to all participants because you are all winners!
