The goals of the K-12 Education Program are to help students: - Develop a compassionate understanding of international affairs and our local connections with a larger, interdependent world;
- Increase knowledge and appreciation of diverse cultural perspectives both here and around the world; and
- Build mutually rewarding relationships with people of many different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
K-12 Education Program Overview
The Council's K-12 program provides people and material resources to schools to enhance international education and multicultural awareness. Offerings include international speakers, a Cultural Immersion Program, WorldQuest Global Knowledge Competition, Teach the World Educator Conference and Youth Forum Series, and the Global & Multicultural Resource Center. The Center, located at Portland State University under the sponsorship of the Office of International Affairs, includes a lending library of Culture Boxes on over 90 countries. Culture Boxes help students experience the art, culture and daily life of other countries in a dynamic and interesting way with hands-on treasures from musical instruments, traditional clothes, toys, and games to easily transportable props. The Center also has an extensive resource library on equity issues and on the United Nations.
