WorldQuest Global Knowledge Competition WorldQuest is an exciting international competition for high school students that takes place at Portland State University in February each year. This friendly team competition for knowledge about world affairs was initiated by the World Affairs Councils of America in 2003. The ten rounds of questions also include a regional cultural immersion during the dinner hour. The winners of the competition travel to Washington, D.C. for the national event in April.
World In Transition Teachers rave about this continually updated eight-region World in Transition series that provides students with opportunities for research, critical thinking, role playing and problem solving. Each unit includes a DVD and 250-page book of lessons, sources and innovative activities. Visit the SCIS website, then purchase the program through the World Affairs Council of Oregon and save 25%.
International Guest Speakers Program The International Guest Speakers Program arranges for professionals, university students, returned Peace Corps volunteers, and community members to bring their culture and experiences to life for you and your students. You can also arrange to "adopt" an international student for your school during International Education Week in November. Visit ICSP for more information.
Cross Town / Cross Culture Cross Town / Cross Culture brings students together from diverse neighborhoods to Portland State University to experience the "world in their backyard" with international students, dialogue, art, music, and the common language of dance.
Cultural Immersion Program The Cultural Immersion Program transforms your school into a microcosm of the world with speakers, artists-in-residence, Cultural Bridge Boxes, props, passport tours, and performances for a month or more.
Welcome to My World Welcome to My World helps teach students sensitivity to people with disabilities. This is achieved through the simulation of physical and learning disabilities. Please contact Rosemary Carlsen at (503) 635-6505 for further information.
