Intern and Volunteer Opportunities

Are you passionate about world affairs? A meticulous multi-tasker? Flexible, professional and friendly?

If you’re looking for valuable work experience, want to learn some new skills or are looking to launch a career in international relations, this is your chance!

The World Affairs Council of Oregon is seeking enthusiastic and qualified volunteers and interns. As a volunteer or intern you will have the chance to do everything from writing and research to planning special events and escorting international visitors.



Compensation and Credit

All Council volunteer and internship positions are unpaid. Compensation comes in the currency of knowledge, new skills, contacts and fun! We require a minimum of 15 hours a week (preferably 20) and a three month (or one semester) commitment.

Student applicants seeking an internship for academic credit must make arrangements for this through their university or college and should submit their university/college guidelines with their application. Credit is entirely at the discretion of the intern’s university or college.

All interns and volunteers are encouraged to attend the Council’s monthly lectures and various other programs and to assist with the administration of thes

  • Membership and Development
  • International Visitor Leadership Program
  • Programs on World Affairs
  • Community Relations

  Application Instructions

Please download and read the intern/volunteer packet for specific job postings and department descriptions.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume and the intern/volunteer application form.

In your cover letter please also answer the following questions:

  1. What do you hope to gain from this internship/volunteer opportunity?

  2. What course work and/or experience do you have that would make you a valuable intern/volunteer?

  3. What aspects of the internship are you most interested in and how do they pertain to your educational and career development?

  4. How many hours will you have available to volunteer at the Council during the Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. workweek?

  5. When would you be available for an interview?

  6. When would you be able to start?

  7. If you have a definite or even approximate end date, please let us know when that is.
