Host an African Youth Leader this Spring

News | International Visitor Leadership Program

Welcome the next generation of African leaders into your home this spring.

The World Affairs Council is looking for host families for two delegations of high school students in March and May.

The first delegation from the Pan-Africa Youth Leadership Program will be here March 20-28 and will bring students from Angola, Malawi, Mauritius, Nigeria, and Zambia.  The second delegation will be here May 22-30 and will have students from Botswana, Ghana, Rwanda, and Tanzania.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Pan-Africa Youth Leadership Program aimsto build a network of young leaders willing to promote intercultural understanding and civic engagement. The students are 15-18 years old, English-speaking, and selected by the U.S. Embassy in their country based on academic performance and community involvement.

Seeing Oregon through the eyes of local families gives our visitors a deeper understanding of our community and builds international diplomacy from the bottom-up.  Hosts provide a bed, breakfast and dinner, assistance with transportation to and from the Council’s downtown office during program days, and an American home experience.  Weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. the visitors will participate in youth leadership and community service activities coordinated by the World Affairs Council.
