The U.S. State Department invites all Community Connections participants to join the State Alumni network.

State Alumni is a Web-based interactive directory for the alumni of Department of State Alumni programs. It extends the exchange experience for alumni after they return home and it allows them to stay in contact with one another—and with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs—through networking and sharing useful information about professional opportunities and development.

Baktygul Myrzaeva, a library director from Osh, Kyrgyzstan (Spring 2004), was interviewed by the Osh Janyrygy Newspaper this summer about her experience in Portland. "We can't just love books; we need to develop our libraries and leave the heritage of our libraries to later generations," Baktygul says. "This is one of the best things we learned from Americans." Tashkent Business alumna Nasiba Nasretdinova (Spring 2003) and her colleagues at Business Bank introduced a new Uzbek-American joint venture, Business Leasing, at a presentation attended by US Ambassador Jon Purnell on May 24. Upon Nasretdinova’s return from her eye-opening internship at Portland’s Umpqua Bank, Business Bank and the Central Asian Small Enterprise Fund (CASEF) embarked upon the creation of one of the first leasing companies in Uzbekistan, with CASEF taking a 49% ownership in the venture.

Dina Malkova (Tashkent, Business, Spring 2003) writes: "Human Wear just held a big pret-a-porter fashion show at one of the biggest hotels in Tashkent. About 1500 people visited our show and it was a big success!!! Of course, I was MC!"

Bella Kim (Tashkent, Business, Spring 2003) won a grant to participate in a business training program in France this summer. Congratulations, Bella!
