"This masterful new history should be required reading. . . Astonishing. . . A singular triumph." — Kirkus Reviews
Join us for this special virtual program with Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist and National Book Award-winner Tim Weiner, as he discusses his bestselling new book The Mission: The CIA in the 21st Century and the current and future state of national security. With The Mission (the follow-up to Legacy of Ashes, his previous award-winning history of the early years of the CIA), Weiner pulls back the curtain on the high-stakes story of the CIA through the first quarter of the 21st century.
Buckle up for a gripping and revelatory exploration of the modern CIA, reaching from 9/11 through its covert operations in Afghanistan and Iraq to a new generation of spies and intelligence professionals navigating today’s hardest targets—Moscow, Beijing, Tehran—secret battles with Russia and China, and concluding with the current state of the Agency's challenges and mission within a new administration often at odds with the intelligence community. A masterpiece of reporting, The Mission includes exclusive on-the-record interviews with six former CIA directors, the top spymaster, 13 station chiefs, and scores of top operations officers who served undercover for decades and have never spoken on-the-record to a journalist before.
Event registrants will receive a link to join the program and a 20%-off coupon code to purchase Tim Weiner’s The Mission: The CIA in the 21st Century and/or Legacy of Ashes from Broadway Books.
