Great Decisions: Turkey’s Challenges

Events | Great Decisions

Turkey: a nation at a crossroads, a bridge between an ever-growing chasm between the East and West. Turkey’s first President Kemal Ataturk envisioned a modern, democratic nation-state built on the ashes of the Ottoman Empire with strong ties to Europe, not the Middle East. But as the clashes between secular and religious groups and the recent protests in Taksim Square show, the soul of Turkey is still very much up for grabs. Join us for a talk by Ozan Varol, Professor of Law at Lewis & Clark College.

The 2014 Great Decisions Lecture Series takes place Fridays, January 17 - March 7, 12 p.m. at Portland State University, Science Building 1, Room 107 (1025 SW Mill Street). We are pleased to make this exciting eight-week lecture program free and open to the community, no registration required.
