Between Iraq & a Hard Place: ISIS and the US - Turning Crisis into Opportunity

Events | Headline and Cultural Forums

Iraq is in danger of falling apart. The Iraqis, as well as the rest of the world, were taken by surprise and shocked by the swift fall of the city of Mosul, Iraq's second largest, by a small group of extremists, ISIS, supported by disenfranchised Sunnis and some former Saddam supporters. How could this happen? What are the short- and long-term economic consequences for international markets if violence and insurgency continues to swell? Without an international response how will extremist ISIS-controlled areas of Iraq and Syria accelerate global terrorism?  Could the Kurds be the key to defeating ISIS and securing a stable region? What should the US response be – what should we do, or not do in Iraq? Why should we care?

Join us for a “rapid-response” discussion with Nawzad Othman, CEO of The Othman Group, founder and former CEO of Otak and chair-elect of the World Affairs Council’s Board Trustees.
