Dr. Melody Rose | Women in International Politics

Events | Headline and Cultural Forums

Looking across the globe, which countries are leading the way in cultivating womens leadership? And where does the US stand? Join us for a discussion with Dr. Melody Rose (president of Marylhurst University and an accomplished scholar on women and politics) as she delves into her findings on the inclusion of women in political leadership positions in the United States compared to other countries. She will address barriers that exist in the United States for women in politics and compare that to how women in other countries have successfully overcome those barriers.

Dr. Melody Rose is the 15th president of Marylhurst University and a nationally recognized scholar of women and politics. Prior to joining Marylhurst, she served as chancellor of the Oregon University System. Before moving to the Oregon University System, Dr. Rose served in a number of roles at Portland State University, culminating in her service as Vice Provost for Academic Programs & Instruction and Dean of Undergraduate Studies. She is also the founder and first director of the Center for Women, Politics & Policy. Dr. Rose was also professor and chair of the political science division before moving into academic administration. While on the PSU faculty, Dr. Rose authored a number of award-winning books, articles and chapters on the U.S. presidency, social policy, women and politics, and elections. Her fourth book, an edited volume entitled Women and Executive Office: Pathways and Performance, was published during the 2012 elections.
