Culturally Relevant Teaching Workshops
Workshop #2: Engagement in the Humanities through Student Interest, Inquiry & Bravery
DESCRIPTION:
Educators are experiencing a rise in resistance to including diverse perspectives in the humanities in some districts, while other districts are embracing the work of equity, inclusion, and culturally relevant teaching. This workshop will provide a space where educators who are experiencing both ends of the spectrum can support each other.
FACILITATORS:
McKenzie Coulson (Tigard High School) and Ty Brack (Tigard Tualatin School District Virtual Academy)

Join a safe space to share experiences during a time when some educators are facing fear and intimidation
CULTURALLY RELEVANT TEACHING ALIGNMENT:
Building from past WorldOregon workshops, the Education Advisory Council will center collaboration on Culturally Relevant Teaching practices: Knowing Yourself, Knowing Your Students, Capitalizing on Student Expertise, and Making Language Count. WorldOregon believes that global perspective centers on leveraging the lived experiences of educators and students to support the development of empathy and connection.

Middle or high school educators/administrators/student teachers

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT UNITS:
3 PDUs for Oregon teachers & 3 Continuing Education Clock Hours for Washington teachers
