Join us as we present four of today's most celebrated writers and journalists reporting on the ideas and issues shaping our world.

New Yorker staff writer and National Book Award-winning author Evan Osnos specializes in politics and foreign affairs, spanning the U.S., the Middle East, East Asia, and China. He won the National Book Award for nonfiction in 2014 for Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth, and Faith in the New China.

Masha Gessen: The Future Is History - Totalitarianism and the New Russia

Masha Gessen was the winner of the 2017 National Book Award in nonfiction, is a staff writer at The New Yorker, and is the author of several books, among them The Man Without a Face: The Unlikely Rise of Vladimir Putin. The recipient of numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Carnegie Fellowship, Gessen teaches at Amherst College and lives in New York City.


ABOUT THE SERIES

The International Speaker Series began in 2000 in celebration of the World Affairs Council of Oregon’s 50th anniversary. Speakers have included Hillary Rodham Clinton, Mikhail Gorbachev, Condoleezza Rice, Vicente Fox, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Madeleine Albright, Desmond Tutu, Sandra Day O’Connor, Bono, and Bill Moyers, among many others. Since its inception, the Series has become the nation’s premier speaker series presenting the people, ideas, and issues shaping our global future. Ticket sales help support the work of WorldOregon (also known as the World Affairs Council of Oregon)—connecting Oregonians to the world since 1950! WorldOregon programs support Oregonian students, educators, youth, and adults by accelerating cross-cultural understanding.

TICKET INFORMATION

Tickets go on sale Friday, February 9th through Portland'5. Tickets can only be purchased through the Portland'5 / Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall website or ticketing office (1111 SW Broadway Ave.; M-SA 10am-5pm). SPEAKER RECEPTION FOR PREMIER & PATRON LEVEL TICKETS

Patron or Premier level ticket holders are welcome to attend special speaker receptions immediately following each series event. Receptions will be held at the Oregon Historical Society, located at 1200 SW Park Avenue, Portland, OR 97205. 
Speaker series ticket receipts or ticket stubs are required for admittance to the reception Light refreshments and beverages will be available. You will also have the opportunity to mingle with each speaker as well as other WorldOregon supporters.

MEMBER PRICE

Current WorldOregon members can receive a 10% discount* off of ticket prices. Please visit worldoregon.org/join to join or renew! (*Discount does not apply to Upper Balcony and Student level tickets.)

While every effort is made to keep ticket prices affordable, we realize that the cost may be prohibitive for some people. ARTS FOR ALL TICKETS

WorldOregon is a proud participating member of Arts for All. Anyone who receives food stamps (SNAP) and has the Oregon Trail Card is eligible to purchase individual International Speaker Series tickets for $5 at the Portland'5 Box Office (1111 SW Broadway Ave.; M-SA 10am-5pm). Please note: Purchases are available on the day of Series events and limited to two tickets per cardholder. You must show your Oregon Trail Card at the time of purchase and pay with cash or credit card. SNAP credit on the Oregon Trail Card cannot be used to buy tickets.
