Muhammad Yunus
Muhammad Yunus was born in the village of Bathua in what was then Eastern Bengalm, and was the third of 14 children, five of whom died in infancy. His father was a successful goldsmith but his biggest influence was his mother who inspired him to commit himself to eradicating poverty. He received his BA and MA in Economics from Dhaka University in Bangladesh, won a Fulbright Scholarship, and received his PhD from Vanderbilt University. Muhammad Yunus has received scores of prestigious awards from governments and associations around the world, not the least of which was the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.
