Eight Mayors from Korea through the International Visitor Leadership Program of the U.S. Department of State
The Korean delegation will meet with representatives from local organizations and lay a wreath at the Oregon Korean War Memorial in Wilsonville
April 15, 2015, Portland, Ore—Mayors from eight municipalities in the Republic of Korea will be in the Portland area from Thursday, April 16 through Friday, April 17 and will visit local organizations, government representatives, and corporations including Mayor Charlie Hales, Commissioner Amanda Fritz, the Port of Portland, and Nike. Oregon is one of three stops on the delegation’s U.S. Department of State-sponsored professional development program, including Washington D.C. and Hawaii, and the only stop on the U.S. West Coast.
The group—visiting through the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program—will be here to explore the diversity of U.S. local government systems, the relationship between local and state/federal governments, international trade, and recent trends in the U.S./Korea alliance.
On Thursday morning, April 16 the delegation will lay a wreath at the Oregon Korean War Memorial in Wilsonville between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Members of the press are invited to attend this public ceremony.
