With new Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, Japan has announced a goal of net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050. With so many hurdles (aside from energy policy, needed structural reforms in industrial and labor markets, education, agriculture, and a host of other sectors) is this an achievable goal? Join us for a discussion with Tokyo-based Robert Alan Feldman, who is a professor in the Management of Technology program at Tokyo University of Science, on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Japan around trade and global relations, new technologies for sustainability, and the future of economic relations between Japan and America.   

Robert Alan Feldman, in addition to his professorship at Tokyo University of Science, is a Senior Advisor at Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities. He was a regular commentator on World Business Satellite, the nightly business program of TV Tokyo, from 2000-2020. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Feldman has also published a number of books, including, Japanese Financial Markets: Deficits, Dilemmas, and Deregulation (MIT Press) and several books in Japanese, most recently Mirai Gata Nihon Keizai Saishin Kogi (Latest Lectures on a Future Oriented Japanese Economy).
