In light of the recent influx of refugee families from Afghanistan, Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq and Syria, a rising
percentage of Muslim students are attending schools in the Portland area. As a result, it is critical to see
the world through their eyes and understand their culture and faith in order to better serve their needs.
This hands-on, interactive workshop gives educators, school administrators and counselors an overview
of Islamic culture, practices, and experiences. It also sheds light upon common misrepresentations of
the faith and the resulting wave of Islamophobia that hinders the success of Muslim children in schools and beyond.

Program Includes:

  • Learning the fundamental beliefs of Islam
  • Deepening your understanding of Muslims in the United States and Oregon
  • Addressing gender equity, stereotypes of Islam & the background on the meaning of Islamophobia
  • Engaging with the Youth Ambassadors Club and learning how they can visit your school
