Global Ties U.S., in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, are hosting a series of Diplomacy Begins Here summits across the United States that will bring together local, national, and international leaders from the business, government, and nonprofit world.

WorldOregon is proud to host New + Next: Building Civic & Economic Innovation on Thursday, November 30th. The day-long summit will foster connections and growth in the international exchange community and celebrate the critical role that public and citizen diplomacy programs play in building a more peaceful, prosperous world at home and abroad.

Diplomacy Begins Here | New + Next: Building Civic & Economic Innovation
Oregon has a strong legacy and a much-admired reputation around civic and economic innovation- from technology and active-wear to sustainability, urban planning, neighborhood involvement and citizenship; and is well-known for its vibrant youth culture and one of the fastest growing refugee and immigrant populations in the country. The summit explores emergent best practices around entrepreneurship and economic development, youth leadership, multicultural integration, and how communities can build stronger networks and strategic partnerships that can create more prosperous, informed, responsive, resilient, and vibrant communities. This is a pressing topic for the community and also one that draws International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) groups to Oregon each year.

The summit will feature community leaders and resources that are active in welcoming exchange visitors, such as participants in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). Further, this summit will address many U.S. foreign policy topics, as the summit will look at Economic Development and Entrepreneurship, Youth Leadership, and Women’s Empowerment through the lens of new and next-generation Portlanders.

Community Benefit
Questions of who we are, how we belong, and paths to prosperity shape and will continue to shape civic dialogue, economic investment, and citizenship, locally, regionally, nationally as well as globally. As previously mentioned, Oregon has a reputation as a thriving city for youth and innovation and one of the fastest growing refugee and immigrant populations in the country. We believe a Portland metro look at the attendant issues will create platforms and offer tools to build mutual understanding, inform strategic partnerships and problem-solving – inspiring models for other communities to process the opportunities and challenges for newcomers and the next generation.

Attend and you will:
Explore emergent best practices around entrepreneurship and economic development
Discover youth leadership and multicultural integration in Portland
Learn how to communities can build stronger networks and strategic partnerships that can create resilient and vibrant communities

Additional benefits of attending:
Meet with and learn from community leaders and resources that are actively involved in the implementation of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)
Dive deeper into U.S. foreign policy topics, as they relate to the local level (Economic Development and Entrepreneurship, Youth Leadership, and Women's Empowerment)
Engage with the next-generation of Portlanders

* Space is limited! Registration will close when venue reaches capacity.
