Recent large-scale protests in Iran have been centered in the more religiously conservative parts of the country, traditionally supportive of hard-line leaders. Participants seem to be fed up with economic stagnation and declining living standards. Will the governments's heavy-handed response affect future election outcomes? How do these protests compare to political revolt in economically-forgotten areas in other parts of the world?
