About the Series

WorldOregon’s International Speaker Series, which began in 2000, is one of the nation’s premier platforms for international affairs. For more than two decades, the series has put you in the room with the global leaders, visionaries, and inspiring voices that are changing our world.

Now in its 23rd year, the International Speaker Series continues its tradition of presenting a broad spectrum of the people, big ideas, and issues framing our role on the world stage — with a focus this spring on bold voices confronting global violence and human rights, gender justice, political and cultural polarization, and movements toward a more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous future.

2023 International Speaker Series FAQs:

What’s different this year?

WorldOregon’s International Speaker Series, now in its 23rd season, returns to in-person presentations (with an at-home, streaming option) with the first two events of a four-part series at the stunning Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton —the series will continue in fall 2023 with two more events, with dates and locations to be announced.

How do you choose speakers?

In alignment with our nonprofit mission, and as a nonpartisan organization, each year we identify key global issues and trends to assess and consider which speakers would animate conversations that might have impact and resonance for audiences here in Oregon.

The 2023 International Speaker Series shines the spotlight on bold voices addressing human rights, political and cultural polarization, and movements toward a more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous future.

    • She is the daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who was part of our 2002 International Speaker Series.
  • David Hogg – Wednesday, June 7, 7 pm – activist & co-founder of March for Our Lives
    • The choice of Hogg was inspired by the work of our Young Leaders in Action (YLA), high schoolers who have focused their work this year on the impact of gun violence on youth.

Where will the International Speaker Series be held?

For the two International Speaker Series programs in spring 2023, events will be held at The Patricia Reser Center for the Arts, 12625 SW Crescent St., Beaverton, OR 97005.

As part of WorldOregon’s goal of diversifying and expanding access to the series and our programs more generally, the decision was made to engage more broadly across the Portland-metro with new venues and community partnerships, as we returned to in-person presentations.
